Michael E. Getzey
President of Construction Division
Michael Getzey has been with Marshall Hotels & Resorts, Inc. since 1981. Mr. Getzey has over 25 years experience in hotel construction, development, and renovations. These projects have covered the entire spectrum of the development process from site selection through property opening. Focusing on project administration, Mr. Getzey is able to bring together a unique blend of hotel operational experience together with construction knowledge, to produce a cost effective result. Every project is designed to be completed on time and within the allotted budget guidelines. This value added approach has been successful for numerous projects. Mr. Getzey has been involved with hotel projects in locations from New York State to Florida. Project types have included new hotel construction, total property renovations, building retrofits, building restoration following natural disaster and historical rehabilitations. Project values have ranged from several hundred thousand dollars to in excess of twenty million dollars. Mr. Getzey has also acted as the owner's consultant for many re-flagging and acquisition projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. In addiction, owner assistance is provided in purchasing all furniture, fixtures, and equipment for projects. Mr. Getzey's previous experience in purchasing hundreds of millions of dollars of these products over the years can benefit the project budget.
In addition to construction related activities, Mr. Getzey remains involved in all aspects of daily property management. Ownership communications as well as monthly reporting are an integral part of his management philosophy. He prepares annual budgets and business plan formulations for the individual properties that he is directly responsible for. Currently he has three Hampton Inn hotels that are Hilton award winners for various achievements within the brand.
Mr. Getzey attended the University of New Haven in New Haven, Conn. He graduated from both Brandywine College and the Culinary Institute of America, majoring in various aspects of the Hospitality industry. He was formally a licensed Maryland state Real Estate Broker for over ten years. Currently he is a member of the Wicomico County Tourism Advisory Board, and recently served as a commissioner for the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center commission for growth planning.
